For the General Public

Childhood asthma is a very common condition and estimated to affect more than 1 million children in the UK with many more affected world wide. What is increasingly understood is what causes asthma. What is not well understood is why asthma is such a diverse condition, for example some children grow out of their asthma but others don't, some children need lots of treatment to control their symptoms and some don't, some children have symptoms on most days and others have infrequent but troublesome symptoms. This study has been funded by the Scottish Chief Scientist Office and is the first to explore why asthma is such a diverse condition.
